I started the training run on fire. Not literal fire, mind you, but I was full of energy and motivation to step up my run. The weather was pretty much perfect, and I was awake and energetic. A co-worker told me he wanted to see 8-minute miles and I laughed it off. My paces haven’t been quite that good yet but I secretly wanted to get there.
Run Lucky 5k 2018

Sunday afternoon was a cold and windy day in Oklahoma, but not nearly as cold and windy as it was the first time I ran the Run Lucky 5k in 2014. Then it was miserable, overcast, and threatening to rain while we ran in near-freezing conditions. Today we lucked out and it was just cold and windy enough to make running pretty enjoyable. At least to me.
Lake Hefner 16mi Training Run

I felt like I had a lot to prove to myself during this week’s long run after bonking last week running the West River Trail in OKC. This week I decided to head back to Lake Hefner for my scheduled 16 mile run, with hopes that familiar terrain and landmarks would make the mental game easier.
